The life and writings of Harriet Newell (1793–1812)
Heaven's Blossom
Harriet Newell
Harriet Newell was a blessed subject of divine grace from an early age. Her writings, which overflowed with love for her Saviour and emanated a maturity of devotion that transcended her youth, are worthy of a place alongside those of other eminently pious women, such as Ruth Bryan and Mary Winslow.
Her love for foreign missions blossomed during her courtship with Rev. Samuel Newell. Shortly after their marriage, the couple left America to dedicate their lives to missionary labours.
Harriet’s passion for missions remained steadfast, even in the face of great hardships, including the loss of her darling infant daughter, until her early and triumphant death at the age of 19 in the Isle of France.
